About MSME
Small
scale Industries in India enjoy a distinct position and exemptions &
benefits over the other entities. It also makes a good contribution towards the
socio- economic development of the country. Expansion of the small scale
enterprises is taking place growing into medium scale enterprises and they are
required to adopt higher level of technologies in order to remain competitive
in a fast globalizing world. The emergence of the large services sector has
necessitated the government to include other enterprises covering both Small
Scale Industries (SSI) sector. Thus, it is necessary to address the concerns of
such enterprises micro, small and medium and provide them with a single
framework.
Ø Manufacturing
Enterprises
In
the case of the enterprises are engaged in the manufacture or production of
goods pertaining to any industries specified in first schedule to the
industries (Development and Regulation) Act, 1951, there are three types of
enterprises:
(i)
Micro Enterprises – Where the
investment in plant and machinery does not exceed RS. 25 lakh.
(ii)
Small Enterprises – Where the
investment in the plant and machinery does not exceed RS. 5 crore.
(iii)
Medium Enterprises – Where the
investment in plant and machinery is more than RS. 5 crore but does not exceed
RS. Crore.
Ø Service
Enterprise
In the case of
enterprises engaged in providing or rendering of services there are three types
of enterprises:
(i)
Micro Enterprises – Where the
investment in equipment does not exceed RS. 10 lakh.
(ii)
Small Enterprise – Where the
investment in equipment is more than RS. 10 lakh but does not exceed RS 2 crore
(iii)
Medium Enterprise – Where the
investment in equipment is more than RS. 2 crore but does not exceed RS. 5
crore.
Characteristics
of MSME
Ø Systemic
Activity: It is a systematic, step by step and purposeful activity. It has
certain temperamental, skills and other knowledge competency requirements.
Ø Lawful
and Purposeful activity: The objects of this must be lawful and purpose of this
is to create value for personal profits and social gains.
Ø Innovation:
It should be creative that involves creation of value. By combining various
factors of production, entrepreneur produces goods and services that meets
needs and wants of society.
Ø Organization
of Production: Organization of production involves product development and
development of markets for the products. It requires the negotiation skills to
raise the best interest in the favor of enterprises.
